Óbuda University (Hungarian: Óbudai Egyetem), located in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is the country’s largest practice-oriented science and technology university and a current member of the European University Association (EUA). The university traces its roots back to its predecessor established in 1410; it began operating under the name of Hungarian Royal Public Higher Industrial School in 1898, boasting a history of nearly 600 years. In 1999, it merged three technical colleges, namely Bánki Donát Technical College, Kandó Kálmán Technical College, and Light Industry Technical College. On January 1, 2010, it was officially renamed Óbuda University.
As one of Hungary’s top universities of applied sciences, Óbuda University has a student population of over 6,000, with international students accounting for 8% of the total enrollment. It comprises 6 campuses, 7 faculties, and 3 doctoral schools. The university is renowned for its outstanding engineering and IT programs, with particular strength in the field of robotics—it is the founder and current leader of the Central European Living Lab for Intelligent Robotics (CELLI), which consists of 18 robotics centers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from 7 countries. It is also a member of euRobotics aisbl and actively participates in numerous thematic groups. In terms of international rankings, the university has maintained a steady upward trajectory: it was ranked 1201–1400 in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, and secured positions of 601–800 in the 2025 Times World University Rankings and 301–350 in the 2025 Times Young University Rankings.
